Finnish designer Mari Isopahkala won the Nova Design Award 2012

Mari Isopahkala, also known as Lapponia Jewelry designer, has been chosen as the Nordic designer of the year. The Nova Design Prize was awarded at the largest interior Fair in Stockholm in cooperation with the Plaza Interiör magazine.

Other nominees for the Nova Design Award 2012 were Siren Elisa Wilhemsen from Norway, Christina Liljenberg Halström from Danmark, Karin Wallenbeck from Sweden and Tove Thambert from Sweden.

In addition to other honours, Mari will be given the opportunity to exhibit her works at this spring’s Formex design fair and at the Gallery Pascale in Stockholm. She will also be featured in an article in Plaza Interiör magazine. All nominees will also receive a diploma designed by Kyuhyung Cho, artist and graphic designer from South Korea.

Mari Isopahkala is a freelance designer from Helsinki. Her expansive work moves freely between furniture, jewelry, candles and interior design. Common for all of her products, however, is that each emanates from her desire to tell a story about the object and to evoke feelings and reactions in the viewer. ”I love forms and materials - the tensions between these two. If my creations make people react, be it with astonishment or admiration, I feel I have succeeded in my work. When you love what you do, it shows. Design is a field of activity requiring sensitivity and honesty. Even the smallest of things bear significance. I believe that in addition to ideas and challenges people also need beauty around them to feel well.”

Lapponia designer Mari Isopahkala won the first prize in the Next Episode jewelry design competition announced by Lapponia Jewelry to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The unique competition entry was rendered into the magnificent Winter Pearl collection introduced last autumn.

THE ART. by Mari Isopahkala ”Forms” exhibition is open at Lapponia store in Helsinki, Unioninkatu 25, until the 1st September.
