LAPPONIA

Jubileum

Almost throughout its 50-year history, Lapponia Jewelry has been the most renowned Finnish jewelry brand. The pioneer in jewelry art, founded in 1960, is preparing for its 50th anniversary in 2010 with an impressive anniversary jewelry collection, an international jewelry design competition and an intriguing cooperation project with the University of Art and Design Helsinki.

“We are looking forward with excitement and pride to Lapponia’s anniversary year,” says Laura Lares, CEO. “It is wonderful to be able to remind the general public of the masterpieces by Lapponia’s talented artists from different decades. Lapponia has polarized views by always having been ahead of its times, and this obligates us to startle people also at the beginning of the 2010s. Our artists more than make good on this promise from Lapponia with their stunning anniversary collection.”

Cooperation with upcoming names

To celebrate the anniversary, Lapponia and the University of Art and Design Helsinki are cooperating in a project during which master’s degree students on the Fashion and Textile Design programme of the university will design ten creative costumes based on ten different Lapponia jewelry designs. The perspective is interesting because jewelry is usually matched with costumes and not vice versa. According to Pirjo Hirvonen, Professor in Fashion and Clothing Design at the

University of Art and Design Helsinki, the cooperation project corresponds to the aims of the curriculum and the level of the project is challenging. “The requirement level is suitable for our aims. Lapponia is a renowned master in their field of jewelry art. The impressive jewelry presents the students with the challenging task of creating costumes that share, support and strengthen the message of the jewelry. A very good learning process!” she concludes.

The finished costumes will be displayed in the beginning of 2010.

Anniversary jewelry collection

The thrilling anniversary collection takes Lapponia into the next decade with inspiration from nature, architecture and music. In addition to the new jewelry, the topical Pretty Earth necklace, designed by the Danish jewelry designer Poul Havgaard, returns to the collection to celebrate the long and distinguished career of the retired Danish artist with Lapponia.

Deliveries of the new collection will begin in April 2010.
